RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE SMART MOVES REGIONAL TRANSIT
IMPLEMENTATION INITIATIVE AND RELATED GRANT SUBMITTAL REQUESTING
AMERICAN REINVESTMENT AND RECOVERY ACT (ARRA) FUNDS THROUGH THE
TRANSPORTATION INVESTMENTS GENERATING ECONOMIC RECOVERY (TIGER)
DISCRETIONARY GRANT PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the City of Mission recognizes that a robust, well- functioning regional
transit system will support the regional economy by creating jobs and contributing to the
ability for Kansas City area residents to access opportunities across the region, contribute
to a rising quality of life for all, and safeguard our natural resources, and
WHEREAS, the Mid America Regional Council (MARC) and its regional transit
partners, Unified Government Transit, the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority, and
Johnson County Transit, are working in partnership to purse expanded and enhanced
regional transit service as outlined in Smart Moves, and
WHEREAS, local and regional partnerships will be critical in developing, expanding,
and enhancing our region's transit service now and in the future, and
WHEREAS, the related grant submittal would help to fund transit capital needs,
corresponding bicycle and pedestrian improvements, technology integration, and
supporting roadway improvements, and
WHEREAS, the related grant submittal, if funded, would substantially move our
efforts forward regarding regional transit service and would help to promote livable
communities and a sustainable region.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MISSION, KANSAS:
SECTION 1. The City of Mission supports the TIGER application submitted by the
Mid America Regional Council on behalf of the Kansas City Region to bring increased federal
investment to the Kansas City region in support the Smart Moves Regional Transit
Implementation Plan.
THIS RESOLUTION IS PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF MISSION, this 19"' day of August 2009.
